It is very easy to sign an on-line petition demanding that things be put in place to help protect nature, biodiversity, to reduce co2 and to live more sustainably. What is not as easy is actually doing something positive to improve our world. One of the psychological barriers to overcome is that our efforts are futile and that each one of us plays such a small part in the world order, leading to an apathetic feeling of powerlessness. All too often we simply wait and rely on governments to take the action and then tell us what to do.
There is one simple thing that we can all do, that is good for nature, good for our health and good for our planet. Plant trees. Loads of them. We have spent years cutting down trees and bulldozing natural habitats. It is time to plant.
The benefits are overwhelmingly positive. Trees are nature’s way of soaking up co2 from the atmosphere, they provide homes and corridors for wildlife and a walk in a woodland is good for physical health and well being. The argument for creating more woodland is a no-brainer.
So, this is where we can help. We are an event management company with an appreciation and passion for nature and a desire to help improve the environment we live in. We have experience in tree planting too as we have created copses, hedgerows and orchards in our local area which are now starting to mature. We can help you run a one-off event or series of events to help your organisation create a brand-new woodland…..and make the process fun at the same time. We will turn the experience into a feel-good, team building exercise that has rolling benefits for decades to come.
Your company can sponsor the woodland and employees can proudly claim that they have done something hugely positive for their local community and the environment. The knock-on effects of this will be felt for years and it will inspire other organisations to do the same. The end result is that we end up with significantly more wooded areas for the future and your organisation has something immensely positive to shout about.
Our part in the process will be to identify the planting site and to organise the trees and equipment ready for the planting events. We will work closely with The Woodland Trust to ensure that we are planting the right species for the location and we will oversee the event to ensure that that the process is fun, well-managed and productive. Tree planting events will take place in the winter months but the planning must start now. Maintenance trips and events can take place in the years that follow. This is a team building concept that will develop genuine, community-based links.
We first suggested this style of team building over ten years ago but companies were not ready to take on the concept. Surely now in 2019 and with all we are learning about the way we treat our planet, it is worth another go at trying to engage companies in this form of ecologically positive team building. Two of our favorite tree quotes:
“The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago”
“A society grows great when men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in.”
